A record-breaking 1100 wheelchairs assembled and handed out in Puntarenas, Miramar and Esparza

Another record-breaking day to remember for the Do It Foundation…1100+ wheelchairs assembled and handed out to needy Costa Ricans in the Puntarenas, Miramar and Esparza area.

Field preparations began 2 days earlier with tents being erected, electrical lines being strung, and the tables for the assembly line being put together. The area was in a buzz with trucks being unloaded.

As usual, the volunteers come out in full force knowing that something exciting was getting ready to happen. This type of setup reminds me of the circus coming to town and all the anticipation that comes with it.

The community of Puntarenas, Esparza and Miramar in Costa Rica volunteered for the charitable organization, Doit Foundation

Volunteers participated in assembling wheelchairs for the needy Costa Ricans

The line started forming at 5:30 am and didn’t stop until the last wheelchair was handed out at about 2 pm. Tears, laughter and sincere thank you’s were seen and heard all day long. Providing the gift of mobility is our reward at the Do It Foundation.

Preparations for one of our events begins months ahead of time with many individuals and organizations pitching in to get the word out. For this event we had excellent help from the Mayors of Esparza, Miramar, and Puntarenas. In addition, the hospital in Puntarenas developed a list of needy patients as did the Caja of Costa Rica, and special thanks goes out to Dr. Bayer, M.D. from the Free wheelchair mission organization in California who again came to Costa Rica with his two children and helped with the event.

The above photo is of Connie Maria, a beautiful 7 year old girl from Esparza. She has been unable to walk for several years, suffering from a muscle disorder. Connie and her mother and father were very grateful for the chance to be mobile again.

Below is a picture of our tire department, each tire takes one minute to inflate which equates to 36 man hours.

Volunteers in Esparza and Miramar assembled over 1000 wheelchairs in one single day

Serving the needs of Costa Ricans, the Do It Foundation provides free wheelchairs to old and young alike

This photo above was something very special. The older lady on the right is Mrs. Rodriquez from Miramar who has diabetes and her daughter Maria who is now paralyzed as a result of a traffic accident 3 years ago. Mrs. Rodriquez can now cruise around with her daughter and granddaughter!

We are currently in the planning stages for our next two events in Costa Rica. August 12 in Canas and August 19 in San Jose. We need volunteers for both of these upcoming events so if you can spare some time, contact us.

Community events are being scheduled to distribute wheelchairs to Costa Ricans in need. Contact the Do It Foundation.
